Dayz alpha passes one million sales

Bohemia Interactive has amazingly managed to sell over a million Alpha copies of its zombie survival game DayZ, according to CEO Marek Spanel.

Originally an Arma II mod, the standalone alpha version of the perma-death zombie survival game released on Steam Early Access and via Bohemia Interactive's online store on Monday, December 16.

The game quickly managed to hit 172,500 in the game's first 24  and topped 800,000 sales by January 6, according to the game's developer.

CEO Spanel said recently that, far from final, even a beta version of the game is still some way off. "We do not expect to reach Beta status sooner than the end of 2014," he said.

The Alpha version of the game has been available to buy on Steam for a cost of £19.99 / €23.99 / $29.99.

"[The Alpha is] a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs," Spanel explained. "We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle."

DayZ creator Dean Hall has indicated in the past that a DayZ console release is planned.
