The game is being built by a Scottish tech start-up called Cloudgine, which was founded in 2012 by former Realtime Worlds and Crackdown creative director Dave Jones.
Microsoft said the "new iteration of the open-world action series features a whole new campaign - fully playable in co-op - and uses Xbox Live to power a city that isn't just an exciting place to play, but is a part of your destructive arsenal". It also promises to deliver "a revolutionary new multiplayer experience".
