Dead Island 2 will release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Spring 2015.
Announced at E3, the installment is in development by Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager Development.
Dead Island 2 will take place in California.
"Several months after the events on Banoi, the United States military has put the Golden State under full quarantine," the announcement statement read.
"Now a restricted zone, California has become a bloody paradise for those who refuse to leave their homes and an action-packed playground for renegades who seek adventure, glory and a fresh start."
The Unreal Engine 4 powered title will support eight player drop-in, drop-out cooperative and competitive play. Several classes will be available ranging the 'action-oriented' beserker through to the stealth-oriented hunter.
